How a Naglee Crate Gets Designed
No two works load a crate the same way, so no two crates leave our shop identical. Design starts with the work: dimensions, weight, materials, fragility, surface condition, and the trip ahead. From that we specify the cushioning system, the interior lining, the bracing, and the shell, building in handles, skids, and hardware that make the crate as safe to handle as it is protective.
For international shipments, crates are built with heat-treated lumber meeting ISPM-15 export requirements, so customs never becomes the reason a crate gets opened. And because our crating shop sits beside our climate-controlled storage and our trucks, a work can be crated, stored, and shipped without ever leaving our custody.
Not every work needs the maximum crate, and honest crating means saying so. A short, climate-controlled regional run may call for soft packing or a slat crate at a fraction of the cost; an international loan justifies a fully sealed museum crate. We specify to the actual risk of the actual trip, and we will tell you when the simpler option is genuinely the right one.

It depends on the size of the work and the crate specification its trip requires, so crates are quoted individually. Slat crates run a fraction of full museum crates, and we recommend the level that fits the risk, not the maximum the budget allows.
