We recommend booking as early as possible, especially for moves scheduled between May and September or around month-end dates when demand is highest. For local moves, four to six weeks’ notice is ideal. Long-distance, corporate, and international moves benefit from even more lead time.

A non-binding estimate is based on our assessment of the shipment’s weight and the services required, but the final cost may be higher or lower depending on actual conditions. A binding estimate locks in a fixed price for the agreed-upon scope of services. Our team will walk you through both options so you can choose the one that fits your situation.

A little preparation goes a long way. Before our team arrives:

•       Declutter and donate or discard items you no longer need
•       Label boxes clearly with contents and destination room if packing yourself
•       Set aside medications, valuables, and important documents to transport yourself
•       Ensure clear access to driveways, doorways, hallways, and staircases
•       Reserve elevator access or parking if required by your building
•       Be present, or have an authorized representative available, at both pick-up and delivery

For local moves, yes, the same crew that picks up your belongings will deliver them. For long-distance moves coordinated through the United Van Lines network, a partner agent may assist with delivery. Your move coordinator will keep you informed throughout the process.

For safety and legal reasons, certain items cannot be transported, including hazardous materials (gasoline, propane, paint thinner, cleaning solvents), perishable food, live plants and animals, and ammunition. If you have questions about specific items, please speak with your move coordinator before moving day.

Yes. We offer full packing, partial packing, and unpacking services. Our team uses professional-grade materials to protect your belongings throughout the move. We also carry a full selection of moving boxes and supplies if you prefer to handle packing yourself.

Yes. If you choose to pack your own boxes, please use sturdy boxes, adequate padding, and clear labeling. Keep in mind that our liability for damage to customer-packed boxes may be limited. Our team is happy to advise on best practices if you have questions.

International moves require significantly more preparation than domestic moves. We recommend contacting us at least three months before your target departure date to allow sufficient time for customs documentation, shipping arrangements, and any required inspections or screenings.

In the unlikely event that items are lost or damaged, note any issues on the bill of lading at delivery and contact us as soon as possible. All claims must be submitted in writing within the timeframe specified in your service agreement. Our team will walk you through the process and work to resolve your claim promptly.

Standard coverage provides 60 cents per pound per article as required by federal regulations. Full-value protection coverage is also available and strongly recommended for moves involving items of significant monetary or sentimental value. Your move coordinator will explain your options and help you choose the right level of protection.
